What is the Best Social Network for Investors?

Quora Question: What is the Best Social Network for Investors? ?

Linkedin

LinkedIn would be the default answer to being the best social network for investors. This is mainly due to users are extremely active on this platform and looking to connect for business purposes. As well as the large network effect of the professional network. One constraint to LinkedIn is that free members are now restricted on how many profiles they can search and view without upgrading to premium.

A few other social networks that I would recommend looking into from an investor standpoint are AngelListCrunchbase, and F6S.

AngelList

AngelList allows for people to find a great startup job, invest in a startup, or raise money. As an investor, they are able to select from one of three options.

CrunchBase

CrunchBase is more of a dashboard to search companies, investors, and people to grow your business. The value for an investor is being able to search for a company and see prior investment and the specific investment partner. Other value includes potential access to the founders and links to their social media profiles. This provides a filter for investors to get in front of the correct co-founder.

FS6

F6S provides the #1 free network where founders get deals, list & recruit startup jobs, apply for funding (Accelerators, Funds, Angels), and investors find great startups. Investors are able to browse through startups and their teams on this platform. F6S from an investment standpoint gives accelerators and funds the option to create a page about their funds for startups to view and contact to pitch their idea.

Brief Investor Strategy:

My overall recommendation and strategy for an investor are to create a profile on each of the four platforms. This will increase your visibility to startups and potential for startups to reach out to you. If you are on the hunt for startups, I recommend narrowing down to a specific startup industry. This will help you filter as you search through the social networks.

Once you find a specific company I recommend viewing them on the other investor platforms to gather all relevant information. This includes all prior investment history and locating the founders’ social media profiles for contact purposes. Locating the founder’s LinkedIn is probably the most effective platform to receive a quick response. When reaching out I recommend writing a personal note that could include how you found the company and interested in learning more. This strategy will investors optimize their search for investable startups and making that introduction.
